U3A’s Got Talent

Over 80 members attended ‘U3A’s Got Talent’ on Saturday 30 November for a night of fun, variety and entertainment provided for the members by the members.  The members packed St. Martins Hall and brought their own drink and snacks, to see the performers on a raised stage with lighting and the new hall sound system being used to the full.  The evening was divided into two halves beginning with a karaoke style singalong to get the audience involved and the atmosphere started.

There was a wide range of acts from poems, monologues, music performances. The first half closed with the performance of a comical short play set on Bodmin Moor, written by Marilyn and Peter King entitled ‘A Hole Muck up.’

The interval was an ‘open mic’ spot for those members who hadn’t volunteered to be in the programme of planned acts but felt, after a glass or two of wine perhaps, that they’d like a go at performing a party piece.  This opportunity was taken full advantage of and added to the evening’s sense of fun.

The second half saw more skills and talent on show. After which the audience were encouraged to join in another singalong which they did with gusto!

Director and organiser of the show Alison Currah sang ‘The Rose’ by Bette Midler and Alan Metcalfe completed the programme with the Frank Sinatra number ‘Witchcraft’ to bring the whole evening to a close.

It was agreed that the evening had been a success and perhaps the first of more to come.
