February 2020 Main Meeting
Chairman, Christine Barwell, welcomed a full hall to the February monthly meeting and AGM. She was delighted that 2019 had been such a successful year for the Group and looked forward to 2020’s interesting programme of events and activities with a full hard working Committee. The Chairman and Committee were re-elected virtually en bloc with two additions.
Another Looe U3A Group -There will be a Public Meeting at the Millpool Centre on Tuesday 25 February at 4 p.m to start up another U3A Group when all interested people are invited to attend.Forthcoming events include trips to Greenaway House, Boconnoc House, Quiz Night at St. Martins Hall, Lostwithiel Festival and Theatre Royal for Mama Mia. All Groups meet at their usual time and venues.
Following the business meeting Looe Town Mayor, Mr. Martin Gregory, gave a very thorough and interesting account of the various projects and happenings in Looe. He covered several items including, car parking, public toilets and the Council’s move to the Millpool Library. The Mayor also commented on the number of amenities which the Cornwall Council, due to cost cutting, are putting back into the local Council’s care. The cost of these must be funded through the local precept.A new Chamber of Trade is hoped to be restarted shortly. Mention was also made regarding the Police station, Polvellan House and Polean. He answered numerous questions from the floor and was warmly thanked by Nick Bailey.
Next month’s Speaker will be Ed Buckingham, a Saltash postman who climbed Everest.
