Minutes of the Main Meeting 11th June, St Martin’s Hall, beginning at 10am.

In the absence of a Chair, Angie Cadman opened the meeting by welcoming all members, 3 new members and 2 guests.
Pauline Trehane advised all members of all Health and Safety Issues, including Fire Safety, Evacuation procedures and defibrillator location.

Immersive Dome Screening – Friday 20th June, 2.00pm Tickets £6.50
Midsummer’s Day Picnic on the Wooldown – Tuesday 24th June. 12 noon. Bring own food, chairs, glasses etc. Bubbles will be provided by u3a. Entertainment by the u3a Ukulele Group.
Theatre Royal Plymouth – ‘Calamity Jane’, July 17th, Own transport. Tickets £40
Bodmin Jail Heritage Tour – July 3rd, 10.30am. Own Transport. Café. Tickets £14.50
Summer Feast – Wednesday 13th August, 12 for 12.30pm. Cold Buffet, Tickets £16 to include a glass of wine or soft drink.
Coach Trip to Buckfast Abbey – Thursday 11th September. Abbey gardens, Shops, Lunch. Pickups from Pelynt, Looe, Barbican, Windy Ridge from 9.00am. Tickets £10.00
‘u3a’s Got Talent’ – 22nd November – Members to get thinking caps on for any type of entertainment they could provide for the evening. Sign Up sheet situated by the noticeboards.
Groups News
Vic Gregory – Ukulele Group. Meets every Monday 10am – 12pm at Looe Bowling Club. Plays a variety of music, also the occasional ‘gig’. No meetings throughout August but will commence again in September.
Chris Barwell – Tunes in the Afternoon. Has now stopped for the summer and will resume in September.
Iris Ward – Poetry Group. Meets 2.00pm on the first Monday of each month at Rame View. Looks at Poetry old and new, and occasionally the group writes their own poems.

Angie Cadman – Saturday 21st June – Strawberry Fayre at St. Martin’s Community Hall, 12 noon – 3.00pm. Food and refreshments available.
Marilyn King – Looe Old Cornwall Society, 14th June @ 2.30pm. Mark Camp will be conducting a Graveyard Tour. Meet by St. Martin’s Cemetery Gate. No charge, but donations accepted.
Chris Barwell – On behalf of u3a Okehampton announced a discounted rate at Newton Abbott Racecourse on Tuesday 9th September. £10.00per person. Contact details available by notice boards.
Rod Pritchard – announced this month’s speaker:Mark Barnwell speaking on ‘The Musical Evolution of the Spanish Guitar’. Next Month’s speaker will be from ‘The Wave Project’, on surf therapy for young people.

The raffle was then drawn.
Marilyn King asked for volunteers to prepare tea & coffee for next month’s main meeting because our usual assistants are unable attend. Five volunteers were recruited.
Tea & Coffee break commenced.
Mark Barnwell then gave a fascinating talk on ‘The Musical Evolution of the Spanish Guitar’, which included some guitar technique demonstration and playing.
The meeting concluded at 12 noon.
