Minutes of the Main Meeting 12th November, St Martin’s Hall, beginning at 10am.
The Chair, Alison Currah, welcomed all to the meeting including recently joined member John Jones.
Marilyn and Peter King were thanked as the ‘greeters’ and the usual safety and fire regulations were given.
Chair
The Chair reminded members present that the Committee was still seeking 3 new members and nominations for the different roles needed to run Looe & District u3a in the future. She informed the meeting that the AGM in February would be on Wednesday February 12th, 2025. Any proposals could be submitted before this time to the Committee and questions for the Mayor, when he gives his update at this meeting, could also be submitted. Members would be reminded at the January meeting and via email.
Events
The Chair reported that the Beetle Drive Retro Night had been a huge success filled with laughter and a large degree of competition. She displayed some photographs from the evening and told members that there had been a request for a repeat in 2025 which the team hoped to honour.
Tickets this month were on sale for:
Tavistock Coach Trip – Friday 6th December. Members were informed that due to road closures, pickup points and times have had to be modified.
Christmas Lunch – Wednesday 11th December.
Quiz and Fish and Chip Supper – Saturday 25th January
It had been decided by the Committee that because of slow ticket sales and cancellations due to the West Looe Road Closures, Music Night with NOBZ on Saturday 23rd November had to be cancelled. Cash refunds were issued at the meeting and those not present would be refunded in due course. The Chair hoped that there would be a music night in 2025 as part of the Social Events.
Groups News
Paula from the Garden Safari explained that they were full for their New Year Meal at the Finnygook Inn but she urged members to be on time.
Alison then shared a series of photographs taken by members of the Holiday Group from their recent visit to Whitby, Scarborough and York. A highlight had been a trip to see the group 10CC on member Steve Smith’s birthday. A great time had been had by all.
