He explained that the next meeting on Wednesday April 8th would be a Groups’ Showcase where groups would be invited to attend, set up displays regarding their group activities and if appropriate, perform. The Ukulele group, Tunes in the Afternoon, Recorders and the Poetry group would be performing.
Mayor’s Visit
The Chair informed the meeting that, subsequent to Mayor Stephen Remington’s visit last month and in response to a member’s inquiry, Stephen had submitted an objection regarding parking tariffs in Looe to Cornwall County Council. It read,
‘Looe Town Council objects to the removal of the 2-3 hour tariff at Long Stay Car Parks. In Looe, the Millpool car park is some distance from the town centre and so the 2-3 hour window is vital to ensure visitors continue to come to Looe for shopping and entertainment. Not having this tariff available will also disproportionally disadvantage disabled people as there is very little disabled parking closer to the town and removing this tariff will make it even harder for them to access services. Finally, removing this tariff will divert car parking to other areas of the town e.g. Hannafore which will only exacerbate the issues already experienced there.’
The Mayor had asked for this to be passed onto the members. He also said that he had raised the issue of the provision of a Community bus and was awaiting a reply on both issues.
The Chair also reminded members that for a one-time purchase of £5, a card could be bought from the council allowing entry to the public toilets at the Millpool and on the Seafront.
