Minutes of the Main Meeting 14th May, St Martin’s Hall, beginning at 10am.
Dot Dunning (acting Chair for this meeting) welcomed all attending, + 1 new member: Louise Hambly.
Alison Currah & Andrea Brocklebank were thanked as the ‘greeters’ and the usual safety and fire regulations were given.
Chair
In the absence of a Chair, Dot explained that the current situation of using re-cycled ‘Chairs’ was due to the fact that we do not have a Chair, but that we are actively seeking a volunteer. If we are not successful by February 2026, our u3a will have to close. She responded to a question from member Caroline Petherick as to a job description for Chairman by stating that an informal face to face, or an invite to one of the monthly committee meetings would be the ideal way to communicate the requirements.
As a way forward, it was also explained that with effect from June, our meetings would be ‘Collaborative’ with no Chair, or overheads, but communication by committee, group leaders and members themselves. All information that is communicated is also available in the u3a Programme, each member having been given a copy and on the website.
Noticeboards have been reinstated – thanks to Yvonne Toms.
No bids were received for the ABBA album, so it will be returned to the donor.
The Jigsaw puzzle exchange will cease from today’s meeting. Any jigsaws remaining will be donated to Cornwall Hospice.
