Minutes of Main Meeting held on 11 October 2023, at St. Martins Community Hall, Looe at 10.00 a.m.
Chair, Alison Currah, welcomed everyone to the meeting and carried out the usual fire and safety regulations.
She thanked Dot Dunning for being a Greeter and also Di Trerise and Linda Harwood for organising the parking.
Chairs News:
Adverts had been placed in the Downderry Nut Tree magazine and the Looe Community News in the hope of recruiting new members.
The Third Age Trust is having its 40th Anniversary AGM on 18 October at Milton Keynes and interested members can either visit in person or watch via Zoom, see Web links.
ICE – members had been previously asked to carry a card with a contact number and name in case of emergency and a show of hands indicated that a good number of members had done so.

Saturday 21 October – Quiz by Dot Dunning with a fish and chip supper and bar £11. Prizes. Maximum 8 in a team.
Visits to Penrock Distillery, Liskeard (by Aldi) 14/15 November 2 p.m. own transport. Donation for tasting.
Coach Trip 22 November to Plymouth and The Box. £10. – 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Christmas Lunch – 13 December, Portbyhan Hotel. 2/3 courses £24/£29.
Scottish Night – 27 January – tickets available November meeting.
Groups News:
Coffee and Natter – 13 October 10.30 – 12.30 at the Millpool Community Hub (by Library). A better turnout was hoped for than last time and organisers need to be found amongst the group itself.
Holiday Group – singles and/or others. There was to be a meeting in the Committee Room to discuss this following today’s Main Meeting.
Garden Safari will be holding their Annual Planning Meeting at Looe Golf Club tomorrow (12 October) at 10.45 a.m. light meals available. The Group requires a volunteer mini bus driver for their future outings. Paula Roy gave Rod Pritchard a vote of thanks for his previous excellent service as a driver over several years. The Group will also be visiting The Lost Gardens of Heligan to see the Christmas Lights on the 17 November by coach £20. Now sold out.
Yvonne Toms mentioned the Christmas Fayre at Pelynt Village Hall on 11 November 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. where our Ukelele Group will be playing.
Community News:
Pelynt Male Voice Choir and the Looe Valley Singers have a charity concert this Saturday 14 October £8. Including food in St. Martins Community Hall, Looe.
Cinema by the Sea – 18 October 7-7.30 pm. £5. The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry.
Wrap up S.E. Cornwall – Rotary Inner Wheel. Asking for donations of coats. Collection boxes will be stationed in various locations including Looe Library, RNLI, Liskeard Mole Valley and Liskeard Co-op. Other sites are being sought.
St. Martins Community hall – Baked potato lunch and trimmings £5. On 21 October 12– 3 p.m.
Carole Day mentioned a Christmas Goods sale for S.E. Cornwall Cat Protection to be held at Driftwood, 3 Bodrigan Road, East Looe on Friday 20 October 2 – 4 p.m.
A request was made by the Chair for Members to try and find two non-members to carry out tea/coffee duties for our U3A Group from January 2024 as our present ladies were having to step down due to health problems. If none can be found then a rota within our group would unfortunately have to be arranged.
This month’s Speaker was Mrs. Margaret Parker – Prostitutes to Prime Ministers
November’s Speaker is Mr. David Parker – Rame Church.
The raffle and coffee break followed.
Mrs Parker then gave a very informative and amusing talk on her life as a market researcher and then as a legal journalist. She was well received and was warmly thanked by the Chair.
