Minutes of Main Meeting held on 13 September 2023, at St. Martins Community Hall, East Looe at 10 a.m.
Chair, Alison Currah welcomed everyone to the meeting.
The Greeters, Dot Dunning, Marilyn and Peter King were thanked and the usual fire & safely regulations were stated.
Alison announced the sad death of previous member, Tony Fellows, and informed members that his Cremation service would be at Bodmin on the 18 September at 12.30 p.m. with the wake being held at the Sportmans Arms at Menheniot. Iris Ward, said he was a Grand Master of the Harriers and a much loved man.
Chairs News:
Although Alison, could not attend due to Covid, she had received feedback to say the Summer Lunch had been a great success.
There is a Workshop and Networking day organised by Susan Parker at Trethorne, Launceston on the 19 September and as Alison would be away members were invited to take her place. Chris, Di and Linda would be attending and there were other places available. It would consist of two sessions and lunch and travelling would be paid for.
Members were informed that there are free Educational Events live on line by logging onto the website.
It was requested that all members carry a card giving the name and contact phone number of a next of kin etc. in case of an emergency (ICE).

Trip to Plymouth 22 November by coach £10. Can visit The Box/ Christmas Shopping etc. 5 hours in Plymouth.
Christmas Lunch at The Portbyhan 13 December. £24. 2 courses or £29. 3 courses.
Group News:
The Coffee and Natter Group will meet Friday 15 September 10.30 to 12.30 at the Community Hub at the Millpool. Sadly, Andrea Brocklebank is in hospital and will not be able to organise it. However, Chair and some Committee members will attend and it is hoped that the Group will run themselves in future.
Steve Smith brought up the idea of a Holiday Group for like-minded U3A members for home/abroad holidays. List on the board for interested members.
Tunes in the Afternoon will recommence on Friday 18 November.

Garden Safari would be meeting at the Looe Golf Club on 12 October at 10.45 a.m. to arrange their Programme for 2024. Unfortunately Pauline Trehane is standing down as organiser.
Paula Roy and Barbara Leck will continue to run the Group as they have for the past few months.
Thanks were expressed from the Chair and members to Pauline for all her previous hard work.
Community News:
Cinema by the Sea Wednesday 20 September – will be showing ‘Book Club – The Next Chapter’ – doors open 7 p.m. £5 entry.
Next month’s Speaker will be Mrs Margaret Parker – Prostitutes to Prime Ministers.

Speaker – Mr. Bunny Warren then gave an extremely informative and interesting talk on being a firearms officer in the Police Force on the Isle of Wight. At the end of his talk he answered numerous questions from the floor and received much applause. He was warmly thanked by Kath Banks.
