October Main Meeting 2022

The hall was packed for our October meeting: nearly full capacity! 96 members took their seats and were warmly welcomed by the chair, Alison Currah. In particular, she welcomed the new members who had been able to join as a result of the removal of the Waiting List and she thanked all members for making that possible by booking their places at the meeting.

The business meeting followed during which the chair updated the members about recent events and those upcoming, for which tickets were still available and on sale. Namely, the Jazz night on November 25th, the trip to Tavistock on December 2nd for their Dickensian evening and the Christmas Lunch on Wednesday 14th December. The Chair asked members to suggest events and trips for the coming 2023 season and the discussion was lively with many ideas from a variety of musical and dance themed evenings, theatre trips and a special event to mark the coronation of King Charles III.

Many group leaders then informed the members about their various activities and encouraged new members to get involved. Group information can be found be emailing groupsInfo@looeu3a.org Community News was followed by the raffle and coffee.

This month’s speaker was our own member and published author, Pamela Vass who gave a most interesting talk about the suffragette movement in the South West and her book entitled ‘Breaking the Mould’.
